Prosecutors allege King of Prussia man took $23K from homeowners, failed to secure permits

  • Public Safety

A Montgomery County contractor is facing felony charges after authorities said he took tens of thousands of dollars from an Eagleville couple for a promised home addition that was never completed.

Meng Hong Pou, 45, of the 300 block of Independence Road, owner of MP Contractor Inc. in King of Prussia, is charged with deceptive or fraudulent business practices, home improvement fraud, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, and theft by deception, according to a criminal complaint filed by Lower Providence Township police.

Investigators said the victims hired Pou in 2024 for a $50,000 home addition and paid him $23,800 in two installments — $2,800 for an architect fee in October and a $21,000 deposit in November.

While Pou cashed the checks, detectives said he only performed about a week’s worth of work that allegedly damaged HVAC and walls. Police also alleged Pou falsely told the homeowners he had secured building permits, but township officials confirmed no permits had been filed.

By May 2025, police said Pou had cut off communication with the victims. A warrant was issued following an investigation by detectives, and Pou is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Oct. 21 in front of Magisterial District Judge Cathleen Kelly Rebar.

Pou is free on $10,000 unsecured bail.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
