Heading into mid-September, the Phillies are currently dealing with a slew of injuries, some more severe than others.

Ahead of Saturday evening's Kansas City Royals-Phillies game, Phillies manager Rob Thomson provided numerous recovery and timeline updates:

  • Edmundo Sosa left Friday's Royals-Phillies game with right groin tightness after the top of the seventh inning. Thomson noticed something didn't look right when Sosa played a ball up the middle, and when he approached him on the bench, Sosa admitted he was hurting. Thomson said Sosa "came in feeling better [Saturday]" and was seeing the doctor before the game. He wasn't sure if Sosa will need an IL stint, but the Phillies will "probably give him a couple days anyway."

  • Jordan Romano felt neck stiffness Friday, and the right middle finger that landed him on the 15-day IL was numb. Thomson doesn't think it's anything serious, and there isn't any additional testing planned, but Romano didn't participate in his scheduled BP session Saturday. Despite the additional setback, Thomson doesn't think Romano is running out of time for the 2025 season. "If he can't get into games, we can always simulate stuff out here. We'll just see when that thing clears up, and we'll get him back on the mound," Thomson said.

  • Alec Bohm is feeling good, according to Thomson. Bohm, currently on the 10-day IL with left shoulder inflammation, was fielding ground balls at third base during batting practice. Thomson said Bohm is "feeling a lot better every day," and he would hopefully hit off a tee today. The goal is still for Bohm to return after the minimum 10 games on the IL, which would see him back for the Sept. 19 series opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
  • Trea Turner is also progressing in his rehab. He played catch again Saturday, along with glove work and pool running. "We think that possibly tomorrow or Monday, he might be able to start swinging the bat, so that's a good sign," Thomson said.
  • Zack Wheeler has a date for his thoracic outlet decompression surgery: Sept. 23. Thomson said Wheeler will undergo the surgery in St. Louis, and that the surgeon is a specialist in thoracic outlet syndrome. Funnily enough, the doctor's name is Robert Thompson.

  • Bohm will travel with the Phillies on next week's West Coast road trip to Los Angeles and Arizona. Turner, José Alvarado and Romano will stay back.
