Authorities in Delaware County are actively searching for two suspects believed to be responsible for a series of laundromat burglaries that have resulted in significant financial losses and property damage.
The primary suspect, identified as Joseph Jude Casey, 29, of Ridley Park, has been charged with burglary, theft, and criminal trespassing.
Surveillance footage from the A&W Laundromat on Lincoln Avenue in Prospect Park captured Casey's face illuminated by his cellphone during a break-in on Memorial Day.
The suspects allegedly used a pry bar to force entry through the back door, stealing approximately $3,000 and causing about $700 in damages.
Investigators believe the same individuals are responsible for a similar burglary at the Triple Star Laundromat on Chester Pike in Ridley Township. In both incidents, the suspects targeted coin machines and cash registers, leaving behind extensive damage.
Prospect Park Police Chief David Madonna emphasized the impact on local business owners, telling reporters, "They're just trying to operate their mom and pop business, and they're trying to get by in a really difficult time right now, and you have guys like these trying to victimize them."
The second suspect remains unidentified, described only as wearing black clothing and a mask. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the Prospect Park Police Department at 610-534-2222.
Business owners are advised to enhance security measures, including installing surveillance cameras and minimizing on-site cash storage, to deter future incidents.
