State police investigations concluded the incident was intentional.
A tractor trailer versus pedestrian accident in Delaware County resulted in the death of one woman, police said. Per their investigation, police saidit was an apparent suicide.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, emergency crews were called to the area of Interstate 476 (The Blue Route) northbound lanes at mile marker 3.8 in Nether Providence Township on Monday, May 5, around 9 p.m. PSP said that a crash involving a female pedestrian and a commercial truck tractor with trailer were involved.
According to Trooper Paul Holdefer, public information officer for the PSP Troop K, based in Skippack, the investigation into the matter has resulted in one conclusion: the incident was "an apparent suicide."
Police said that the truck driver's dash camera included video consistent with the truck driver's account of the incident. The victim parked her vehicle on the right shoulder of I-476N lanes, police said. She then exited her vehicle "intentionally walking in front of the commercial truck," Holdefer said in a statement released Tuesday morning.
The name of the woman will not be released by PSP.
Police said that the truck was traveling "at highway speeds" and this caused "immediate fatal injuries to the victim."
"The truck driver showed no signs of impairment and cooperated fully with the investigation," said Holdefer.
More information will be released as it is made available.
