12-year-old Abigail Gillon has tragically died following Saturday's motor vehicle collision, according to a family spokesperson.
Abigail and her best friend, 11-year-old Isabella "Bella" Jones, were riding on an electric scooter Saturday in Aston when they hit a curb and fell. They were then both struck by a car.
The driver of that car stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the police investigation. No citations or criminal charges have been filed.
Abigail and Bella were both taken to Nemours Children's Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware.
Bella remains in critical condition. Abigail sadly died Monday afternoon due to a severe traumatic brain injury, according to an update posted to a GoFundMe organized by a family friend.
In the wake of this heartbreaking incident, Aston and Delaware County are rallying around the families of the two girls.
Abigail and Bella both swim for Ridley Township. A Delaware County swimming coach has started a fundraiser to be split evenly between the Gillon and Jones families.
The GoFundMe pages for Abigail and Bella, organized by a family friend and a cousin, respectively, have collectively raised over $78,000 and counting.
