The Upper Darby Township Council scheduled public hearings Wednesday, Feb. 12, Thursday, Feb. 13, on the Township’s delayed 2025 budget.

While the Council passed a 2025 budget in November 2024, that budget had to be be scrapped when a district court judge ruled that an Earned Income Tax in the budget could not be implemented because the Council had not followed proper procedure in approving it.

Revising the budget without the tax pushed the budget process into December, leaving insufficient time for the public hearings on the new budget that would be required to approve thew plan before the end of the year.

In the absence of a 2025, the Township government has been operating through January under the 2024 budget, and will continue on a month-by-month basis to operate under last year’s budget until a budget for this year is approved.

The proposed budget that will be presented at February’s public hearings includes a general budget of $97.76 million, as well as nearly $13 million for the Sewer Department and nearly $3 million for the Fuel Fund.

The general budget would include a transfer of about $10.5 million from the general fund. The Council also proposes passing the Earned Income Tax again, this time to take effect in July.

The two public hearings will be held at 6 p.m. at the Township Administration Building. The hearings will also be livestreamed on the Township’s YouTube channel.
