As they Eagles accepted the George Halas Trophy as NFC Champions Sunday, Nick Sirianni went out of his way to praise Jalen Hurts.
"How 'bout our quarterback? How 'bout our quarterback? He's a stud!" Sirianni said to FOX's Terry Bradshaw. "I knew he was gonna play that way! I knew it! Don't doubt him! All he does is win!
How about your quarterback, Philly?! #FlyEaglesFly pic.twitter.com/48JSpe1KcS
Hurts entered the game with some concerns about his left knee, which he banged up in last week's win over the Los Angeles Rams. He also hadn't looked particularly sharp throwing the ball in the two postseason games since returning from concussion protocol. But he responded with a tremendous performance in a 55-23 NFC Championship Game throttling of the Washington Commanders, completing 20 of 28 passes for 246 yards and a touchdown. For good measure, Hurts rushed for three touchdowns as well.
There was credible reporting from ESPN's Tim McManus and Jeremy Fowler this past summer that the relationship between Hurts and Sirianni was strained during a 2023 season that ended with probably the worst collapse in franchise history. That was true at the time, and we don't know in an honest moment exactly how the two feel about each other right now. But they've won a lot of games together, and the duo are now headed to the Super Bowl for the second time in three years.
