Project seeks plans for vibrant economy, safer streets
The Urban Land Institute is seeking volunteers for a Technical Assistance Panel that would develop a plan for economic improvement in the Upper Darby downtown area.
The project will have a focus on developing entertainment, (including retail as entertainment), restaurants, and public spaces to better serve residents and attract visitors. The area for study is an established business district served by a variety of transportation options.
Planning and Development Goals: Create an implementable vision that emphasizes:
- Development strategies that provide for significant economic growth and opportunities for the entire community
- Transforming underutilized sites into strategic community assets
- Creating safer, more walkable, and vibrant streets
- New / renovated / upgraded public spaces that are equitable, dynamic, beautiful, and well-programmed to assure an enjoyable experience and high quality of life for residents and visitors
- Transit and mobility that is safe, convenient, inclusive, and attractive, including parking that while adequate and convenient, does not preempt strategic development and is not blighting to the public realm
- Create economic resiliency through a competitive mix of large and small businesses
