Two Delaware County nonprofit groups are among more than 200 statewide that will benefit from private contributions subsidized by the state’s Neighborhood Assistance Program.
Under the program, the Foundation for Delaware County in Upper Darby received $22,500 from M&T Bank and the Foundation of the Delaware County Chamber received $4,500 from Monroe Energy, LLC.
A total of $34.3 million statewide was authorized for the program this week.
According to the NAP website, the goal of NAP is to encourage community participation and partnerships among nonprofits, businesses and residents, to benefit distressed areas and/or low-income populations. The NAP does not give money to the charities. Rather, the funds represent tax credits given to provide businesses who make donations.
The NAP has fove categories of giving, with tax credits ranging from 25 percent to 95 percent. The two Delco charities received donations under NAP’s Special Priorities Program, which credits 90 percent of the donation.
The Foundation for Delaware County received $22,500 from M&T Bank.
The Foundation for Delaware County’s Medical Legal Partnership will increase housing stability for renters with low incomes. MLP provides no cost civil legal assistance to pregnant women and families participating in the Foundation’s maternal and child health programs. These families live in zip codes with the county’s highest eviction rates
The Foundation of the Delaware County Chamber received $4,500 Monroe Energy. This project aims to support unemployed caregivers in Delaware County by providing financial assistance for summer camp. By reducing the cost of childcare, the program empowers caregivers to seek employment and return to the workforce. The funds will be used to provide financial credits to eligible families, enabling them to enroll their children in summer camp programs.
