Springfield man faces surgery for rare tumor

  • Community

Springfield resident, husband and father of three Bryan Treude will undergo surgery today to remove a heart tumor, and his family has set upa GoFUndMe page to help defray costs.

Bryan Treude, was recently diagnosed with Pulmonary Artery Intimal Sarcoma, which is an extremely rare form of cancer. This type of cancer often mimics a blood clot, leading doctors to initially diagnose it as such. After multiple hospital transfers, X-rays, scans, and a biopsy, they were able to confirm his diagnosis.

The large mass is located in his lung and very close to his heart, causing damage to the right side of his heart. He will receive open-heart surgery on Jan. 7th to reconstruct the right side of his heart and to remove as much of the tumor as possible.

Once his heart is strong enough, he will receive chemotherapy to reduce, and eventually remove, the remaining tumor.

Bryan has been in multiple hospitals since Dec. 19 and is now receiving excellent care at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
