Three Millbourne officials face federal charges for allegedly conspiring to illegally add voters to rolls in 2021 so that they could win their respective elections.
Council Vice President Md Nurul Hasan, current council member Md Munsur “Mithu” Ali, and former council member Md Rafikul “Jibon” Islam are charged with conspiracy, 16 counts each of false information in registering and fraudulent voter registration, as well as aiding and abetting in an indictment filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, according to information published in the Delco Daily Times.
Hasan ran for mayor in the Democratic primary against Mayor Mahabubul A. Tayub, but lost 138 to 120, according to election records on the county website.
Ali won the primary for one of the three borough council seats, but Islam lost his bid for re-election in the primary. Council members MD Mosharraf Hossain and Alauddin Patwary won the other two seats in the primary.
The trio is accused of conspiring to steal the 2021 general election for Hasan to be mayor through a multi-step process of obtaining personal identification information of non-Millbourne residents; using that information to access the state website and change the addresses for those people to locations within Millbourne, then requesting that mail-in or absentee ballots for those non-Millbourne residents be sent to addresses accessible by the defendants; fraudulently casting write-in votes for Hasan on those ballots.
Islam is scheduled for arraignment and initial appearance before Magistrate Judge Elizabeth T. Hey on Feb. 25. Ali and Hasan are scheduled for arraignment and first appearance on Feb. 27, also before Hey.
