An Upper Darby man is charged with robbery after police say he grabbed cash from a customer using a Wawa ATM and fled.
According to a criminal complaint filed by Upper Darby police, officers responded to the Wawa at 8240 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, at just after 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, for a report of a customer robbed.
The victim told officers that he withdrew $400 in $20-bills from the ATM. While the victim was at the ATM, a man later identified as Lemir Jali Holmes-Evans, 28, of Upper Darby, snatched the money from the vicitm’s hand and fled the store, according to the witness statement. The victim said he pursued the thief unto Windsor Avenue but lost sight of him.
Police also met a witness who said his dashboard camera caught footage of the subject running out of the store onto Windsor Avenue.
Based on a description from the Wawa surveillance video, police were able to identify the suspect as Holmes-Evans, with whom police had prior interactions.
Police arrested Holmes-Evans at just after 3 p.m. Feb. 8 as he was emerging from his home on the 8100 block of Merion Ave., about 0.2 of a mile from the Wawa. He was found to be in position of $00 in $20-bills, according to the police report.
Holmes-Evans is being held at the Delaware County Jail after failing to post 10 percent of a $50,000 bond.
