A Philadelphia man was arrested after Upper Darby police say walked out of a clothing store carrying two trash bags full of merchandise valued at more than $700.
According to a criminal complaint filed by Officer Adam Wheatley, police were dispatched at about noon on Tuesday, Feb. 4, to the zero hundred block of 69th Street for ya report of retail theft.
The caller described a man leaving the store with two trash bags full of merchandise and heading toward the SEPTA terminal at 69th Street and Market Street. SEPTA police advised the Upper Darby officer that they had detained a man in the terminal matching the suspect’s description.
Police later identified the suspect as Michael Clark, 61, of Philadelphia. However, at the time of his arrest Clark gave the name Terry Johnson, according to the complaint. Clark’s real identity from his fingerprints, police said.
The trash bags were found to be full of clothes with the store tags still on them, police said. The total value of the merchandise was &4729.78
Clark is charged with one felony count of retail theft and one misdemeanor count of giving false identification to police.
He is being held in the Delaware County Jail after failing to post bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on March 3.
