A Holmes man has been charged with stabbing a person in the head during Eagles celebrations in Prospect Park, according to information published by the Delaware County Daily Times.

Borough police charged Jeffrey Zimmerman, 37, with felony assault charges after the incident Sunday night.

Police Chief David Madonna told the Times that were dispatched to Fifth and Madison for a victim stabbed after being confronted by a disorderly person.

Witnesses at the scene told police a man drove by them at Fifth and Madison avenues, rolled down his window and began using obscene and threatening language.

The group told the driver to just go home and he eventually sped off but parked a distance away and approached the group on foot, police said.

He then grabbed the victim and started a fight.

The victim attempted to defend himself as others attempted to restrain the man, bringing him to the ground.

Police said he then swung upwards with a knife stabbing the victim in the head.

The 43-year-old victim was taken to Chester-Crozer Medical Center for a stab wound to his head.

According to the criminal complaint filed by Madonna, after the stabbing, the suspect from the incident was reported by witnesses to have fled the scene towards Lincoln Avenue in his car.

He was later pulled over by police, who took him into custody with the assistance of officers from neighboring departments.

Police report they found a bloody knife on the driver, by then identified as Zimmerman.

Zimmerman was unable to post bail Monday and was committed to the George W. Hill Correctional Facility after arraignment by District Judge Sloan Walker. A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for Feb. 24.
