Members of the public are likely to have their last opportunity to offer comments on the proposed 2025 Upper Darby Township budget when the Township Council holds two special public hearings next week.

While the Council passed a 2025 budget in November 2024, that budget had to be be dicarded when a judge ruled the Council had made procedural errors in adopting it

Revising the budget pushed the budget process into December, leaving insufficient time for the public hearings on the new budget that would be required to approve the plan before the end of the year.

In the absence of a 2025, the Township government has been operating through January under the 2024 budget, and will continue on a month-by-month basis to operate under last year’s budget until a budget for this year is approved.

The proposed budget that will be presented at next week’s public hearings includes a general budget of $97.76 million, as well as nearly $13 million for the Sewer Department and nearly $3 million for the Fuel Fund.

The general budget would include a transfer of about $10.5 million from the general fund. The Council also proposes passing the Earned Income Tax again, this time to take effect in July.

The two public hearings will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, and Thursday, Feb. 13, at the Township Administration Building. Council is scheduled to vote on the budget at 7 p.m. Feb.13. The hearings will also be livestreamed on the Township’s YouTube channel.
