Delco Community College hosts educational event for local entrepreneurs

Pennsylvania Sen. Tim Kearney and state Rep. Gina Curry will host their fourth annual Black & Diverse Business Forum and networking event at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22 at Delaware County Community College, according to a statement from Kearney’s office.

Minority entrepreneurs and small business owners are invited to come out to the event and learn about small business resources including:

* How to get started

* How to get certified

* How to grow your business

* How to access capital

* Connect with companies interested in contracting with diverse businesses

Attendees can expect to hear about business opportunities from leaders across Southeastern Pennsylvania, including representatives from the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce, SEPTA, Swarthmore College, Widener University’s Small Business Development Center, and more.

Cheryl Stevens, founder and owner of Cheryl’s Southern Style Cuisine will serve as the keynote speaker. Stevens, of Chester, started her restaurant business in 2003 with a take-out stand on Welsh Street in Chester. Her business has since expanded to nearly a dozen stands across Delaware, Chester and Philadelphia counties, including locations on four college campuses/universities and two sports arenas.

Onsite registration and check-in will begin at 8:30 a.m., followed by presentations from 9 to 11:15 a.m. and networking is 11:15 a.m. to noon.

The event will be held at Delaware County Community College Academic Building Room 2246 at 901 S. Media Line Road, Media.
