The man known as A.C. Batman found himself on the wrong side of the law this weekend.
Curtis Bordley — better known to visitors and residents as the city's own Caped Crusader — was charged with aggravated assault after he allegedly spraying a man on the Boardwalk.
The victim temporarily lost his vision, according to the charges.
Bordley says that the man spat on him and he was defending himself, a friend told BreakingAC.
Many learned of the arrest via the Facebook page Scan AtlanticCity.
"Batman arrested in Atlantic City," the post read, with a photo of the scene Sunday night.
Bordley, 34, faces three charges, including the third-degree assault charge, along with weapons offenses related to the possession and use of the pepper spray, according to documents obtained by BreakingAC.
There was no narrative included with the affidavit of probable cause. The alleged victim is listed only by the initials DM in the charges. There is no mention of the alleged spitting.
Bordley's following in the city was evident as many commented on positive interactions with the man who they say is just trying to brighten people's day.
"He saved my grandson and nephew from trying to out run me!" wrote Stacie Garris-Oliver, who included a photo of the two children with Bordley. "He’s our Superhero!"
The costume was at first "a front for a young man that was terribly bullied to the point that he didn't want to show his face anymore," wrote Beverly Zimnicki. "He wanted to hide to stop the pain and when that wasn't bad enough after being in foster care most of his childhood, his only cousin was senselessly murdered. He just had enough he didn't retaliate, he didn't start doing drugs, he didn't become an angry piece of s***, instead HE channeled his anger and hurt and turned his life experience into something positive."
She told of how he speaks out to the children on the Boardwalk and makes them feel safe.
Bordley did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
He was charged on a summons and released pending a future court date set for 11 a.m. Sept. 24 in Superior Court.
Bordley does not have anything in his criminal history, according to court records. He had two citations last summer for sleeping in a public place.
He started "working at A.C. Batman/Devil Hunter" on Feb. 9, 2024, according to his Facebook page.
