Governor Josh Shapiro is facing criticism for promoting a voter registration site—vote.pa—whose web address closely mimics the official state site (vote.pa.gov) but is operated by a Democratic-linked organization and collects users' personal data for partisan purposes.
The site, promoted through a Facebook ad by Black Leadership Pennsylvania, registers users while reserving the right to use and share their information for political efforts or sell it to third parties.
Critics, including Republican State Senator Kristin Phillips-Hill, say it's deceptive and undermines cyber-security, especially given Shapiro's past efforts as attorney general to warn Pennsylvanians about such “cybersquatting” schemes.
