Teen girl killed, driver critically injured in Chadds Ford Easter crash involved gunshots, authorities say

  • Public Safety

Investigation into the tragic single-vehicle crash early on Easter Sunday morning that left a 17-year-old girl dead and a 19-year-old man critically injured,  found that both victims had sustained gunshot wounds to the head, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

The incident occurred around 3:37 a.m. on April 20 at the intersection of Baltimore Pike and Wilmington West Chester Pike. Troopers arriving at the scene discovered a black 2015 BMW sedan overturned on its roof adjacent to the northbound lanes of Baltimore Pike.

Inside the vehicle, they found the teenage girl, who was pronounced dead at the scene, and the male driver, who was transported to Paoli Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Subsequent investigation revealed that the BMW had been traveling at an excessive speed, running multiple red lights while heading southbound on Baltimore Pike. The vehicle crossed into the northbound lanes, exited the roadway, and struck a telephone pole before overturning.

An autopsy determined that the female passenger died from a single gunshot wound to the head. The male driver also sustained a gunshot wound to the head and is not expected to survive. Investigators recovered two firearms and two spent cartridge casings from within the vehicle.

Authorities have stated that there is no threat to the public and that the investigation is ongoing. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is urged to contact the Pennsylvania State Police Media station at 484-840-1000.

The Pennsylvania State Police will have no further comment at this time and continue to withhold the identities of the victims.
