Students at Upper Darby High School have been receiving racist or otherwise abusive texts, according to reporting in the Daily Times.
The Upper Darby School District has informed students about the situation and has notified the Upper Darby police and the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office, the Times reports.
Three Upper Darby students are known to have received the messages, which made reference to slavery and used spoofing to dconceal the true source of the message.
Similar messages have been received by black teens and adults across the country this week, according to the Associated Press.
New York, Alabama, California, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Tennessee. They generally used a similar tone but varied in wording, according to the AP.
