Emergency crews were dispatched to Crozier Chester Medical Center for the second time in less than a week Monday morning for an electrical fire. (earlier story)
The call came in at 11:26 a.m. Monday, according to dispatch, and units from Upland, Chester, Aston, Parkside and Brookhaven fire companies responded. The fire was reported in the mechanical room. The situation was brought under control between noon and 12:30, and emergency responders departed the scene between 1:00 and 1:15 p.m.
A statement from Upland Fire Company indicated that the same mechanical room where the previous fire started became engulfed in smoke. Officials said the smoke was a result of a small electrical fire while maintenance crews were switching power from the emergency generator installed after the first fire back to an external power source.
Fire crews worked to make sure all power was cut off to the room and used a combination of dry chemical extinguishers and later a hose to bring the fire under control. There were no injuries and no evacuations.
Thursday night’s incident resulted in more than 30 evacuations.
