Several Upper Darby High School students were arrested Wednesday afternoon as a result of a brawl that took place after dismissal, according to a statement from Upper Darby police.

“The Upper Darby Police Department responded to a fight involving numerous high school students at the intersection of Windsor Avenue, State Road, and Lansdowne Avenue,” Police Superintendent Timothy M. Bernhardt wrote on social media.

Upon arrival, officers encountered a group of teenage girls fighting. Police said the officers tried to deescalate the situation and make arrests but multiple students resisted, prompting officers to call for backup.

The officers were eventually able to bring the situation under control and multiple people were taken into custody.

Police have not said the total number of teens arrested or the charges they’ll face.

“To the students involved: your actions disrupted the community and endangered everyone’s safety,” Bernhardt wrote in his X post. “This behavior is unacceptable and WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.”

Upper Darby School District Superintendent Dr. Daniel P. McGarry wrote about the incident in a letter to parents.

“The unsafe conduct of those students after school today jeopardized the safety and wellbeing of others and these students will be disciplined in accordance with our District Code of Character,” he wrote. “I have had conversations with the Upper Darby Police, and we are so fortunate to have their support.”
